Sourced directly from Chiran, Kagoshima in Japan's southernmost major tea-growing region, this premium ceremonial-grade matcha was selected by our expert team after comparing multiple producers for colour, aroma, texture and flavour — and it stood out on every count.

Kagoshimas warm climate, volcanic soil and long sunshine hours create ideal growing conditions, producing a vibrant, bright green matcha with none of the dull, yellow undertones found in lower-grade varieties.

Tea plants are shaded for three to four weeks before harvest to enhance chlorophyll, L-theanine, sweetness and umami. The youngest leaves are then hand-picked, steamed, dried, refined into tencha, and slowly stone-ground into an ultra-fine, silky powder.

The result is a smooth, naturally sweet matcha with delicate umami and minimal bitterness. Traditionally whisked with a bamboo chasen in 70–80°C water, it produces a light, frothy cup. Naturally rich in antioxidants, including catechins (EGCG), it is also a source of L-theanine, iron and vitamin A.

Please note the bamboo matcha whisk shown in the image is for display purposes only, but is available to purchase separately both online and in-store.

How to Use

Use 1-2 teaspoons per cup of hot water (80 C) and whisk to enjoy or simply add to your smoothie or yoghurt. To make a cafe style matcha latte place 1 tsp of matcha powder into a mug with 1 tbsp of boiling water and stir into a paste. Next heat your favourite milk or nut, oat or coconut mylk until steaming. Froth the milk as much as possible with a whisk or milk frother and pour into the matcha paste. If matcha is a bit too earthy for you but you want to enjoy the health benefits such as its high anti-oxidant properties then mix in a natural sweetener such as maple, agave or honey when preparing the milk.
